Project Description
Smart Forest aims to utilize the power of IoT sensors, Artificial Intelligence, and mobility in order to prevent forest fires in Lebanon.
Eurisko’s Intervention
Eurisko established an R&D lab to assess IoT sensors from different providers, studied different forest fire prediction models, and explored Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning structures and models in order to provide an accurate way to predict forest fires.
Technologies Used
- Hardware IoT infrastructure is based on high-accuracy IoT sensors powered by dedicated solar-based batteries.
- The backend engine is developed using real-time sockets, AI/ML capabilities, and Microservice Architecture on an auto-scaling serverless infrastructure which allows serving thousands and thousands of forests.
- A responsive web-based dashboard is developed using React/Next and advanced visualization libraries.
Some of the New Features
♦ Smart IoT system that reads natural parameters in real-time (air temperature, soil temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, wind speed, wind direction, CO/CO2 level etc.)
♦ AI/ML-based engine that predicts the Fire Risk Index based on historical forest fire data and the specific natural specifications and features of each forest
♦ Real-time dashboard with advanced charts, visualization, and reports
♦ Advanced notification engine that notifies related parties by SMS/Email whenever CO/CO2 levels cross a certain threshold or the Fire Risk Index is above normal rates

The Results
A high-accuracy, user-friendly Smart City application enabling forests across Lebanon to prevent forest fires by monitoring the Fire Risk Index in real-time and acting as soon as a forest fire begins by reading abnormal CO/CO2 levels in the air.
